Abstract
This study aimed to explore the disinfection potential of some chemicals and local herbs
to establish in vitro culture of ginger shoot bud explants successfully, and to investigate the influence
of low furidan concentrations and media physical forms on cultures prolific capacities. The results
revealed that water extract of willow bark powder was most effective for control of both fungal and
bacterial infections followed by Gentamicin. The best antifungal activity resulted from latex of usher
Calotropis procera leaves and stems. Carbofuran (furidan) at concentration of 2 mg/l enhanced the
multiplication potential of cultures. Agar overlaid by liquid media was not significantly different from
agar solidified media for shoot multiplication, while multiplication was retarded in stationary liquid
media.
